After getting things up and running a few weeks back, the system has sat idle waiting for me to do something with. Low and behold, the feeds were well out of date. Apparently you have to manually create a cron entry to update the feeds. Follow the steps below to get it done. Update Openvas Feeds<\/h3>\n

To ensure openvas 9 is kept up to date and running the latest tests,\u00a0 you need to sync the nvt, scap and cert data.\u00a0 The best way to do this is to create a script that sync’s the necessary data.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Create a script under \/usr\/local\/bin called update-openvas<\/p>\n

vim \/usr\/local\/bin\/update-openvas<\/em><\/p>\n

Add the following contents to the file<\/p>\n

\/usr\/sbin\/greenbone-nvt-sync<\/em>
\n \/usr\/sbin\/greenbone-certdata-sync<\/em>
\n \/usr\/sbin\/greenbone-scapdata-sync<\/em>
\n \/usr\/sbin\/openvasmd –update –verbose –progress<\/em>
\n \/etc\/init.d\/openvas-manager restart<\/em>
\n \/etc\/init.d\/openvas-scanner restart<\/em><\/p>\n

Save the file and make it executeable<\/p>\n

chmod a+x \/usr\/local\/bin\/update-openvas<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Run the script to make sure it works and that there are no errors<\/p>\n

\/usr\/local\/bin\/update-openvas<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Add the script to cron to run daily<\/p>\n

crontab -e<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Add the following contents<\/p>\n

1 1 * * * \/usr\/local\/bin\/update-openvas 1>\/dev\/null 2>\/dev\/null<\/em><\/p>\n
